Anti-bullying Month

Anti-Bullying Month in Progress

Next week we will initiate our anti-bullying training in the classrooms to provide a consistent approach throughout the school. Research shows that parents who spend at least 15 minutes a day talking with their child can build the foundation for a strong relationship and help prevent bullying. The time spent will help boost children’s confidence and build effective strategies for facing bullying—whether children are being bullied, engaging in bullying themselves, or witnessing bullying. Take a few minutes and “check in,” by asking about school, their friends, and any challenges they face. KnowBullying is an app with simple conversation starters to begin a discussion with children and tips to recognize signs of bullying.

Cookies for Clara
Thursday, 02 October 2014 08:55

October is Down Syndrome Awareness month and St. Andrew students are supporting Clara through the sale of cookies. Clara not only has Down Syndrome, but also spent the first 178 days of her life in the hospital suffering from complications from open-heart surgery. Clara is now home in Independence with a round-the-clock nurse and her extended family is baking cookies to help her parents offset some of the major expenses they are incurring. A variety of kinds of cookies are available for $10 per dozen and orders can be placed through Kathy Clapp or the school office. Deliveries will be made to the school on October 17 and November 7. Please help us make a difference in this young family’s life.

Recycling for AR
Wednesday, 24 September 2014 08:39

PTO will be recycling to help cover the cost of our on-line AR and STAR reading program. This effort will replace the classroom baskets we have created in the past for sale at the Christmas Bazaar. As part of this effort PTO will be recycling aluminum cans once a month. A truck will be parked outside during PTO meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 pm and again during drop-off and pick-up times at school on the following day. We invite families and friends to bring cans from home on October 1st at 7 pm and October 2nd at from 7am to 8 am and 3 pm to 3:30 pm to donate to the cause.
