Drexel Fund Campaign
Thursday, 15 January 2015 11:01

Nine years ago the Diocese of Wichita established the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School Fund to help parishes and schools which serve the greatest numbers of our poorest families. Last year the Drexel Fund distributed $970,000 to twenty-three parishes, including St. Andrew Parish. For the past four years all the diocesan schools have been asked to contribute to this effort and last year raised almost $90,000. Our students will participate in this fifth annual Walk in Sister’s Shoes Campaign from now through March 3 by collecting money in shoeboxes in their classroom.

The focus of our campaign this year will be a coin challenge with an emphasis each week. See the schedule below for details. Students are also encouraged to ‘earn’ the money they donate through odd job around the house, giving up pop when eating out with the family and asking for that money for Drexel. Your generosity during this effort will truly be a gift that makes a difference.

Our weekly campaign challenge:

Week of Jan 5 - NUT Day – Students donated $125

Week of Jan 12 - Focus on dimes – Fill your classroom shoe boxes with dimes!

Week of Jan 19 - Focus on nickels – Let’s see how many nickels we can collect!

Week of Jan 26 – Tuesday is the 100th day of school. Everyone encouraged to bring 100 pennies

Week of Feb 2 – Let’s collect all the quarters we can – NUT Day

Week of Feb 9 – KAYS will be selling their famous Suckers after school - Last sugar binge the week before Lent!

Gala News
Thursday, 13 November 2014 10:07

Our ‘Share the St. Andrew Spirit Gala’ is only 5 months away (April 25) and planning began pretty much from the time last year’s event ended. Beginning today, we will have regular updates on this website, in the school newsletter, the church bulletin, and on the Gala Facebook page  so stay tune.

Today’s Update: This year’s ‘Secret Room’ will feature an exciting new activity which should be a crowd pleaser. We are asking our school families and friends to make an early donation to help make the ‘Secret Room’ a success. Stop by Mikie’s Liquor on Penn Ave. and they will have a list of items needed for the Gala. You will receive a 10% discount and they will collect and deliver all purchases to the Gala Committee. It can’t get much easier than that. We would like to see this project ready to go by Christmas Break.

Every time you shop through Amazon Smile, the School Foundation receives 0.5% of the purchase amount without adding to your cost. This could be a great bonus for the long term security of our school. Please take the time to sign up!

Special note: When you checkout from Amazon using Smile – it gives you an opportunity to share on Facebook.
What a great way to recruit friends and family.

PTO will be recycling to help cover the cost of our on-line AR and STAR reading program. This effort will replace the classroom baskets we have created in the past for sale at the Christmas Bazaar. As part of this effort PTO will be recycling aluminum cans once a month. A truck will be parked outside during PTO meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 pm and again during drop-off and pick-up times at school on the following day.
